Art Feature: A Guided Tour of Dark Academia
This curated feature is brought to you by @Queen-Kitty. Dark academia is an aesthetic that I was dying to make a feature for, and what better month to do it than October? It’s featured as an aesthetic in so many different mediums (books, movies, art, fashion, music, etc.) that, for many, it's become a lifestyle. What is Dark Academia? In its simplest form, dark academia combines a love for higher learning (and its aesthetics) with something dark or secretive. Its origins are usually traced back to Donna Tartt’s novel, The Secret History, which follows a group of closely knit students at an elite, isolated liberal arts college. The story includes a study of “the classics” with a charismatic professor, dark secrets, a bacchanal, and, most notably, murder. Common facets of the dark academia aesthetic include secret societies, traditional academic uniforms (blazers, pleated skirts, plaids, wool, collared shirts, sweaters, etc.), boarding schools, focus on “classic” arts and literature,
In recent days, the world has been shaken by an act of sheer evil against the people of Israel. Israel was attacked by the terrorist organization Hamas, whose stated purpose for being is to kill the Jewish people. Over 1,000 civilians were slaughtered and assaulted in ways too terrible to describe here. Hundreds of young people were massacred while attending a musical festival to celebrate peace, including dozens of people around the world from the United States, Germany, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, and more. In Israeli towns and villages, entire families were wiped out. Parents were killed while trying to protect their children. Babies and children were murdered. Thousands more people were injured and remain in critical condition. Many people, including babies, children, elderly, women, and men were taken hostage by Hamas.
